SocNet Sites Becoming A Major Force In Online Advertising

September 3, 2009: 05:50 AM EST
Attracted by high reach and frequency at lower costs, big-name advertisers are ramping up use of social media sites to tout products. According to a new report, one in five ads viewed online appear on sites like Facebook and MySpace, with the top two advertisers in June being AT&T (2 billion ad impressions) and Experian Interactive (1.3 billion impressions). The category should continue to grow in ad volume as SocNet sites experiment with innovation. “CPMs could also increase if the sites can demonstrate a high campaign ROI,” said an executive at comScore, which produced the report.
